Large homes under the pines, and the office towers of the Energy Corridor
West Houston holds two very different jobs within a few miles: big family homes in the Memorial villages and Spring Branch, and some of the city's largest office buildings along I-10.
The Memorial area is known for large homes on wooded lots under tall pines, from the older ranch houses near Memorial Drive to the newer two-story homes built where those ranches once stood. These homes take time to clean well: high ceilings with fans and ledges, several bathrooms, formal rooms that are rarely used but still need dusting, and pine needles and pollen that come in on every shoe. Many households here use a weekly maid service with a deep clean twice a year.
A few miles west is the Energy Corridor, roughly 19 million square feet of office space, about three-quarters of it Class A, home to large employers such as BP America and ConocoPhillips. Memorial City and Westchase add more towers and mid-rise offices. That is nightly cleaning on a large scale: floors of desks, many restrooms, cafés and fitness rooms, with day porters keeping lobbies and restrooms right during working hours.
